Today's project involved me tearing each and every little cottonwood sprout/grass looking thing out of the ground one by one over the course of an hour or so. Organic gardening comes at a price, but then I went over to our plot at the community garden and pulled a young carrot out of the ground. That made up for any negatives.
Here's a look at the fruits of my labors:
And each respective side:
Other logistics - last week was cool for about three or four days, then intense heat the past three days. Light watering every other day during the week, and heavy watering daily since the heat began. Seeing very positive results from the bean plants, the lettuce in the bottom right grid square next to the tomato, and the squashes. Radishes are doing well too, both the red and the white. I have noticed that this garden site isn't getting a full six hours, thanks to its location on the west side of the house, and also due to a large tree across the street. Will reconsider non-direct sun plants next year. We'll see.
In other news, tonight my love is cooking us a dinner of curry vegetables and curried lamb balls. I mentioned this less because the smell from the other room is about to make me start eating the desk I'm sitting at, but more because half of the veggies in that vegetable medley were home grown, just down the block in Benson Community Garden. I don't know how I've gone this long without growing my own food, it tastes so much better...
